Islip Town honored 38-year Fire Department of the City of New York Captain Steven Berube with a street dedication in Holtsville. A committed member of the fire service community, Steven served at the highest levels of distinction as a lieutenant, then as a founding member of Ladder 133, followed by captain of Ladder 111, and finally as commanding officer of the same company in 2006, a position he held until his retirement in 2023, becoming Ladder 111’s longest-serving company commander.
“Captain Steven Berube exemplified what it means to serve with honor and compassion. It is our privilege to dedicate this street in his memory and ensure that his name is remembered and his impact continues to be felt,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Steven’s drive and passion to help others continue to inspire. His work with the FDNY, the Southwest Incident Management Team, and the New Zealand Fire Department deeply impacted those he served alongside just as much as the communities he helped. Following his passing from a 9/11-related illness, his friends and family proudly honored his extraordinary legacy by dedicating the corner of Spiral Road and Skylark Drive in his name.
