The Elwood School District has appointed Dr. Amy Meyer as the new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, effective July 1. She replaces the retiring Dr. Sonia Hood.
Dr. Meyer has served since 2021 as the Center Moriches School District’s assistant superintendent for curriculum. She previously worked as the director of science, technology, engineering and mathematics for the Shoreham-Wading River School District; as a professional developer and curriculum innovator for Brookhaven National Laboratory; as a science teacher, STEM educator and field hockey coach for the William Floyd School District; and as a science teacher for the Patchogue-Medford School District.
A Mastic resident, Dr. Meyer received her bachelor’s degree in natural science and mathematics from Dowling College, her master’s degree in environmental science from Long Island University, her certificate in school administration from the College of St. Rose and her doctorate in science and mathematics education from Curtin University.
“In the ever-evolving landscape of public education, my focus for the Elwood School District community is to chart bold, personalized pathways for every learner, ensure equitable access to opportunity, empower our educators for the future and build lasting partnerships that connect our students to the world beyond the classroom,” Dr. Meyer said.
