East Islip High School senior wrestler Rocco DeStefano notched his 150th career win in the finals of the Rocky Gilmore Classic, held in East Islip on Jan. 3. To earn this mat milestone, DeStefano, ranked third in the county, defeated Longwood’s No. 1-ranked Devin Connelly, 19-3, by technical fall to earn the 132-pound title. East Islip coach Mike Longobardi was prepared for the achievement, presenting DeStefano with a commemorative banner. East Islip finished in second place behind Manhasset in the Rocky Gilmore Classic team competition with 315.5 points.
DeStefano, a member of East Islip’s varsity squad since seventh grade, will continue his wrestling career at Pennsylvania’s Bloomsburg University this fall.
