The East Islip High School Music Department recently presented its annual spring musical production, directed by Bethany Affelt. This year’s show was “Catch Me If You Can: The Musical,” which appeared on Broadway in 2011 and was based on the 2002 DreamWorks motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Showcasing their acting, singing and dancing talents, the cast featured junior Brendan Kroupa as Frank Abagnale Jr. and senior Tristan Hearth as FBI agent Carl Hanratty, as well as senior Andrew D’Amico as Frank Abagnale Sr., junior Sophia LoMonaco as Paula Abagnale, junior Lorelai Mucciolo as Brenda Strong, senior Bella Pepe as Carol Strong and junior Aidan Sanders as Roger Strong. Seniors Keira Tantillo, Marisa Triolo, Kelly Waldron and Nina Walsh, sophomore Juliana Banville, and freshman Kerry-Ann Montout performed as the “Six Frank Abagnale Jr. Singers,” a new interpretation of a Greek chorus-style group of backup vocalists.

“The production was extremely well received by the East Islip community, and standing ovations were heartily given at every performance,” Affelt said. “This show incorporated quite a bit more choreography than the past several years’ productions, and junior Brooke Lubin’s talents were displayed in her energetic choreography for three of the larger dance numbers. Under the direction of Christopher Neske and James Tucker, the all-student pit orchestra and stage crew kept the show running with outstanding musical performances and professional scene changes. This was truly an example of EI pride at its finest.”
