Close to 200 East Islip High School students volunteered during the summer for the Ambassadors of Compassion. East Islip is the first school in New York to participate in this nationally acclaimed character development and leadership program, which equips high students with the critical skills necessary to navigate life’s challenges.

A two-hour kickoff event was held in the school’s cafeteria on Aug. 25, followed by a 10-week series of eight in-school group sessions. The program will conclude with a closing ceremony in which each participating student will receive a document certifying them as an Ambassador of Compassion, a designation which can be added to their resume and transcript for college applications.
