Student accomplishments in the arts, academics, athletics and robotics were recognized at the East Islip School District Board of Education’s March 9 meeting.
East Islip High School student-artists Lauren Holmes and Naomy Mukai were honored for their selection in the 16th annual Go APE Advanced Placement Exhibition at the Art League of Long Island. The gallery show ran in February at the Art League’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills. Holmes was one of only eight Long Island students to win an Award of Excellence, while Mukai earned an honorable mention.
East Islip High School students Nicole Mazza and Sarah Vasquez were recognized for being named semifinalists in the 2023 Coca-Cola Scholars Program, while East Islip High School’s varsity wrestling team were honored for their exceptional season and winning the Suffolk County Wrestling Championship title.
Two groups of robotics students – the Lego Girls team of John F. Kennedy Elementary School fourth graders Jayne Elliott, Sonali Kamath and Antonia Rezza, and East Islip Middle School students Sachin Kamath, Mason Latino and Nicholas Selvaggio – were honored for their first-place wins at the FIRST Lego League Challenge competition in January.
