The Smithtown Central School District has announced Dr. Mary-Ellen Kakalos as the new Smithtown Elementary School principal.
Dr. Kakalos, who replaces Janine Lavery who retired this past spring, has more than 25 years of experience in education. She has served as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach and, most recently, held the role of assistant principal at the Seaford Manor Elementary school. She completed her doctorate last year from St. John’s University with a focus on virtual professional development and adult learning.
“I am looking forward to meeting the students, families, and staff at Smithtown Elementary and to all of the wonderful memories they will create together!” Dr. Kakalos said. “I am excited to join the Smithtown team and begin the next chapter in my career as the principal of Smithtown Elementary school!”
