Throughout the Connetquot Central School District, fifth grade students at Edward J. Bosti, Cherokee Street, Helen B. Duffield, Idle Hour, John Pearl and Edith Slocum elementary schools celebrated an important milestone as they looked forward to new academic experiences in middle school.

Helen B. Duffield Elementary School students dressed their best for the school’s moving-up ceremony.
During each of the ceremonies, students received special awards, entertained with musical interludes and heard speeches from peers, who reminisced about their past experiences as elementary school students and predicted what their days at Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School and Ronkonkoma Middle School will look like.

Helen B. Duffield Elementary School fifth graders attended their moving-up ceremony in the school’s gym among family and faculty.
John Pearl Elementary School’s sentiments echoed a theme that resonated throughout the days’ ceremonies when he reminded students, ”How you act and treat people will have a bigger impact on who you are.”
Meanwhile, Helen B. Duffield principal Lisa Farrell, who announced her plans for retirement this school year, reminded the students that they have the foundation to succeed in the world. “You can use all of the strategies and skills to do anything you set your minds to,” she said.

During the elementary school moving-up ceremonies, students showcased their musical skills for the last time.
The district congratulates the fifth grade class on their moving-up and extends best wishes for success in middle school.
