Clavin & Town Board Announce Toys for Tots Toy Drive at Winter Drive-In Movie Festival

There is a reason for the holiday season and that reason is the spirit of giving! Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and the Town Board today announced a partnership with the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation that invites all attendees of the Winter Drive-In Movie Festival at Town Park, Pt. Lookout to bring along an unwrapped toy to donate to a family in need. With holiday drive-in movies lined up each weekend until December 20th, the toy drive will continue at each upcoming movie.

“As is standard for the Marines, they do an incredible job in collecting toys for families in need during the holiday season,” said Clavin. “Their selfless efforts bring smiles to hundreds of underprivileged children during this season, and that speaks volumes. Hempstead Town is proud to help this cause in any way possible, and my fellow members on the Town Board and I encourage all residents to donate an unwrapped toy while enjoying a festive drive-in movie.”

Toys for Tots drop-off boxes will be stationed throughout Town Park, Pt. Lookout parking lot for each upcoming drive-in movie. Attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the Toys for Tots Foundation at the contactless drop-off station located on the way into the park.

“A new unwrapped toy is a symbol of hope,” said retired USMC Major Chuck Kilbride. “Every toy collected is another chance to spread some cheer during the holiday season.”

The Hempstead Town Winter Movie Festival will be continuing this weekend, December 11th – December 13th showing a different drive-in movie each day at Town Park, Pt. Lookout. The schedule of movies is as follows:

Almost Christmas – Friday, December 18th at 5 p.m.
The Grinch – Saturday, December 19th at 5 p.m.
Frozen 2 – Sunday, December 20th at 2 p.m.

In tandem with the drive-in collection announcement, the officials were also joined by the Master Plumbers Council of the City of New York, who donated $5,000 to the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, who will be using the money to purchase enabling toys for special needs families, including Camp ANCHOR campers.
