Cayuga Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District was awarded a grant through the TangerKids Grant Program. The school was further selected through the Tanger Kids Members Choice Campaign, voted on by Tanger members throughout the country, to receive an additional grand prize. Grant monies received totaled $4,000, which will enhance the school’s sensory room.
“This achievement is a testament to our community’s support, as we garnered 698 votes to clinch the top spot,” Principal Lori Onesto said.
Teacher Liana Rosenman, who applied for the grant, explained that the sensory room will provide a safe, calming environment where students can self-regulate, reduce anxiety and refocus – tools that are critical for emotional and academic success. Students will be able to explore, decompress and build the skills they need to navigate their world with confidence.
To commemorate this accomplishment, representatives from Tanger Outlets visited Cayuga Elementary on Jan. 31 with the check and an additional gift basket for Ms. Rosenman’s students.
