Stony Brook University Hospital honored the wishes of a 28-year-old woman with advanced cancer by hosting a special “Princess Picnic” on Monday, May 19. Julia Leonard, from Southold, who has faced lifelong medical challenges—including a glial neuroma diagnosis and becoming paraplegic at age 14—shared her simple dream with her Stony Brook Cancer Center care team of enjoying a fun outdoor picnic with her family, doctors, and staff.
Thanks to Vincent’s Wood Fired Pizza Truck from Setauket, Julia got to do just that. While rocking her tiara, she enjoyed some of her favorite foods, roasted marshmallows, and made s’mores with her loved ones and the dedicated medical staff who have cared for her since September. The event is a tribute to Julia’s resilience and a celebration of the compassionate care provided by the Stony Brook cancer team.
