The many characters imagined by Dr. Seuss will soon appear on the stage at Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District, which is gearing up for its annual Spotlight musical production.
A cast of 42 fourth and fifth grade students will perform “Seussical Kids” on Feb. 16, with show times at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The 45-minute show is based on the many stories of Dr. Seuss. It tells the story of Horton, an elephant, and JoJo, a Who child with a wild imagination. There are appearances by many notable characters including the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Lead actors include Ryder Domina as JoJo, Phillip Taylor as Horton, Aiden Levey as the Cat in the Hat, Ellery Crossman as Thing 1, Norah Carozza as Thing 2, Adriana Pizzo as Sour Kangaroo, Morgan Wu as Young Kangaroo, Ethan Scullin as Mr. Mayor, Maggie Rudolph as Mrs. Mayor and Victoria Burgio as Gertrude.
The show is directed by music teacher Kathleen Dyckman with support from high school student assistants Julia Duffy, Delana Martinez, Emily Ogurick and Luke Raymond.
Ms. Dyckman said that show is full of lively musical numbers and a positive message about the wonders of the imagination.
