Students in Ms. Pope’s technology class at Beach Street Middle School in the West Islip Union Free School District put their engineering and boat-making skills to the test during the annual Paddleboat Regatta Racing Challenge in April. Students were challenged with designing their own paddleboats made of wood during the last few weeks. After carefully crafting their boats, students created paddles using Tinker Cad and the three-dimensional printer. Once assembled, they added rubber bands and wound their paddles tight as they raced head-to-head in the water against classmates.
