Practice makes perfect for Bayport-Blue Point student-musicians who attended a Mock NYSSMA in preparation for the official New York State School Music Association’s Solo Festival, to be held at Islip High School on May 12-13. The young musicians were greeted by high school students and faculty and adjudicated on their performances to work out any of the kinks in their pieces.
During the NYSSMA Solo Festival, students perform a piece of music selected from the NYSSMA manual, which is listed in levels according to difficulty. Students perform in front of a judge and are evaluated. Their scores then assist in qualifying the students for future music festivals.
