Bayport-Blue Point High School students recently attended the Patchogue Arts Council Museum of Contemporary Art and ArtSpace, a field trip made possible through the Partners in Education, Arts & Community Empowerment. High School librarian Ms. Gustafson and local artists Tracy Todd Hunter worked with art teachers Mrs. Nadeem and Mr. Salino on providing the trip.
A Bayport-Blue Point High School student used inspiration from the Patchogue Arts Council Museum of Contemporary Art and ArtSpace to sketch ideas in his sketchbook.
Students explored the work of local artists, learned about career and college readiness for careers in the arts, and engaged in culturally responsive and sustaining learning. They were also exposed to artists from different backgrounds and learned about the concepts behind two art shows from the curators. Students related artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural and historical context to deepen understanding. Throughout the day, the students used the works in the shows as inspiration in their sketchbooks. The sketchbook is an integral part of the process of developing a portfolio for students. This not only is required to apply to art schools for college but is an important part of their professional development as artists. As they sketch, they grow their artistic concepts and practice skills.

The PAC and PEACE Project empowers educators and cultural partners in Suffolk County middle and high schools to engage with the Arts for College, Career, and Civic Readiness and Culturally Responsive-Sustaining education. Students are exposed to local artists (and cultural partners) working in the career field. This annual event also connects the Bayport-Blue Point High School community of artists to the local arts community
