Bayport-Blue Point High School’s girls track and field team has had a great run in the last few weeks.
On Jan. 6, students Ansley B., Ava B., Sophia M. and Maggie Y. ran a 4×400 relay at four minutes and two seconds, a New York State leading time, at the Armory Hispanic Games. The time shattered the former Bayport-Blue Point High School record of four minutes and five seconds and qualified the students for nationals. A few days later, the students were back at the Armory, where they ran the race again in the same time, qualifying them for the prestigious Millrose Games in February.
After the Millrose trials, the students ran a 4×800 meter relay at Yale University. The relay team of Ansley B., Ava B., Sophia M. and Maddie J. won the race, set a new meet record, qualified for nationals and broke the former school record set in 2002 by 16 seconds. They now hold the number one time in the entire country and Bayport-Blue Point High School’s team is now the seventh fastest 4×800 team in Suffolk County history.
The district congratulates these outstanding student-athletes on their groundbreaking accomplishment.
