America’s Boating Course Offered To The Public In June

BRIANNA’S LAW has passed and is being implemented in five annual stages that began on January 1, 2020 – depending on the age of the boat captain.   All power boat operators will be required to obtain a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate by January, 2025, regardless of age.  So, now is the time to sign up for a Safe Boating Course to fulfil this requirement and to keep you, your friends, and family, as well as other boaters safe on our great waterways.

Don’t delay… get your certificate for the upcoming boating season!  Offered by America’s Boating Club of the Great South Bay, you may register for America’s Boating Course on Monday’s – June 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2022, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and separately at:  West Islip Library, 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795, and is available for adults and youth of 12 years old and older.

The basic boating knowledge topics include:

  • Introduction to Boating
  • Boating Law
  • Boat Safety Equipment
  • Safe Boating Navigation
  • Boating Problems
  • Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your boat
  • Jet Ski Certification

 

Many Boat Insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course.  This basic boating knowledge course will give you the education required to obtain the SAFE BOATING CERTIFICATE, which is mandatory for Jet Ski operation, regardless of your age.  The course materials have been written to be on a 7th grade reading level.

Upon completing the test at the end of the three session course, you will receive your NASBLA approved Laminated United States Power Squadrons America’s Boating Course Certificate, which is recognized nationally and never expires.

Registration for the course is required in advance of the course and subject to availabilities.  The cost of the America’s Boating Courts is normally $60., however this June course is offering a pre-summer 33.3% discount for a cost of $40. per student – payable in advance through the registration on our site.  Pre-register is required at boatgsb.org/ABC, by following the “Education Link” and available on a first come, first served basis.  Registration cut-off is one week prior to the start of each of the two courses.  Any questions, please contact Lt./C Michael Boland, AP at bolandmichael123@gmail.com or call 631-290-8096.
