A cast of 60 young actors will perform a Disney animated class for this year’s Spotlight musical production at Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District. There will be three showings of “The Little Mermaid” on Feb. 14 and 15.

The show is an annual tradition at the school and is often the first exposure to musical theater for students. It is being directed by music teacher Kathleen Dyckman with assistance from Karley Riegel and Elizabeth Nagel. Also helping out are former Lockhart students who are involved in theater in the middle school and high school. Several parents are also assisting with scenery and props.

This year’s lead actors include Kaitlin Considine as Ariel, Ryder Domina as Prince Eric, Matthew Giudice as King Triton, Luciana Aiello as Ursula, Kaylie Day as Flounder, Morgan Wu as Sebastian, Avery Marsman as Scuttle and Eric Garcia as the Chef. Major musical numbers include “Kiss the Girl” and “Under the Sea.”

Ms. Dyckman said she chose the “The Little Mermaid” as this year’s show because it is a well-known movie with lively songs and dialogue.

“It’s a good chance to showcase a lot of our talent students because there are so many parts,” she said.

In addition to a daytime performance for Lockhart students on Feb. 14, there will be 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. shows on Feb. 15.
