Bellmore School District students celebrated hard working teachers and staff during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, held on May 4-8. Although the annual festivities were virtual this year, student messages of thanks for all the work teachers have performed in the classroom, and now as distance-educators, came in the form of thoughtful messages, e-cards, video messages, posters and other modes of expression.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Famularo said in his message to the community while promoting the event, “The incredible Star Polisher teachers and staff have done an outstanding job taking care of Star students during this most challenging time.”
During Teacher Appreciation Week, students were encouraged to send a thoughtful message or e-card, telling their teacher what they most appreciate about them and what they have learned this year. Students also asked parents to video them while sharing a memory, singing a song or playing an instrument. Some students emailed a photo of themselves holding flowers or in front of a poster, thanking their teachers for all their hard work.
Stacey Epstein, a kindergarten teacher at the Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center, received a montage of virtual messages from her students, who told her how much they missed her and thanked her for being their teacher.
“I’m now a puddle of tears and am so lucky I work with such wonderful families,” she said.
Leslie Cerverizzo, PTA executive vice president at Winthrop Avenue School, on behalf of the Bellmore Elementary PTA, placed large and colorful signs outside of each of the district’s buildings with the message, “We may not be in the classroom, but you are still in our hearts. Thank you for being amazing teachers, even from a distance!”
