Massapequa Takes Action Coalition (MTAC), a local non-profit prevention and outreach coalition serving the Massapequa and Massapequa Park community was recently featured on a syndicated television show titled, The Donna Drake Show! The nationally syndicated television program focuses on topics of motivation and inspiration, providing insight and good news stories. MTAC’s Project Director, Cathy Samuels and Mark Wenzel, MTAC Co-Chair and Assistant Director, YES Community Counseling Center were both interviewed in front of a live studio audience. The discussion and interview was lead by host Donna Drake and topics included how MTAC began in the Massapequa community, substance abuse and prevention tips, early intervention with young students and parents, and how the coalition is making an impact and a difference in the lives of young people in Massapequa.
The Donna Drake Show provides empowering tips and solutions and both Samuels and Wenzel provided many suggestions and recommendations on how people can get involved with MTAC, support MTAC’s mission and make a difference in the community to prevent prescription misuse, underage drinking and marijuana use.
The television program aired on CBS TV55 on January 18, 2020 with syndication in New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, New Jersey, Connecticut, St. Louis and Boston. The segment can be viewed by visiting www.mtacoalition.com.

Formed in 1997, the mission of MTAC is to prevent and reduce substance misuse and promote healthy families within the Massapequas by collaborating with schools, residents, law enforcement agencies and businesses, as well as the federal, state and local governments. Strategies include increasing awareness of substance misuse through education, helping healthcare providers determine when opioids should be used to treat pain and reducing the harm of overdose through Naloxone training and opioid overdose prevention.
