New 30-room House expected to open in fall 2027, giving more families a place to stay close to their hospitalized children

Ronald McDonald House Long Island recently announced that construction is officially underway on the new $34 million Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, marking a major milestone in the effort to support families with seriously ill children across Suffolk County and the greater Long Island region.
The land has been cleared, excavation is complete, foundation walls have been poured, and the building will soon begin rising out of the ground. Ronkonkoma-based Aurora Contractors is serving as the contractor for the project, which will include 30 private rooms for families and is expected to open in fall 2027.
The new Ronald McDonald House will provide a home away from home for families whose children are receiving critical medical care at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. By giving parents, caregivers and siblings a place to stay close to the hospital, the House will help families remain together during some of the most difficult and stressful moments of their lives.
“Seeing construction officially underway is incredibly exciting because it means this House is no longer just a vision; it is now real,” said Matt Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro. “Every wall that goes up brings us closer to helping families stay near their children when they need each other most. This project is about comfort, dignity, access and keeping families together during medical crises.”
The new House will expand Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro’s ability to serve families across Long Island and beyond, providing not only a place to sleep, but also comfort, meals, privacy, support and a community of care just steps from the hospital.
“This is a moment so many people have worked toward for a very long time,” said Cynthia Lippe, co-chair of the fundraising committee for the Stony Brook Ronald McDonald House project. “The generosity behind this effort reflects the heart of Long Island. Families facing a child’s serious illness should not have to worry about where they will sleep, how far they are from the hospital or whether they can stay close. This House will change that for generations of families.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro currently serves families through its Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park, Family Rooms, Hospitality Carts and other programs designed to keep families close to the care and resources they need.
