Community invited to join superhero-themed day of fun, fitness, and fundraising
GiGi’s Playhouse Long Island, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free educational and therapeutic programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, is thrilled to announce its 2nd Annual 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Shorefront Park, 49 Smith St. in Patchogue. This exciting community event raises vital funds to support the organization’s mission of empowering individuals with Down syndrome to achieve their greatest potential.
The event will be held in true superhero style, with participants encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superheroes. Families, friends, and neighbors from across Long Island will unite to celebrate acceptance, inclusion, and achievement while supporting GiGi’s Playhouse’s life-changing programs.
Event Schedule:
- 8:55 a.m. – Kids’ “Dash”
- 9:00 a.m. – 5K Run (with prizes of $300, $200, and $100 for the top three male and female finishers)
- 9:10 a.m. – One-Mile Walk
In addition to individual prizes, groups are encouraged to participate. The largest group will win a pizza party, while the group with the best average finish time will receive free juice from CoHo Coffee House.
The celebration continues after the race with music from a live DJ, post-race snacks, community fun, and an awards ceremony.
“This event isn’t just about running or walking—it’s about coming together as a community to celebrate the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome,” said Mike Cirigliano, Board President at GiGi’s. “Every step taken and every dollar raised helps us continue to provide free programs that empower our participants and their families.”
Sponsorship opportunities are available, offering local businesses and organizations the chance to show their support while gaining visibility within the community.
