Event Raises $50k+ for kids to attend school, pursue trade schools, and more
Family & Children’s Association (FCA) recently hosted “Bingo for Bright Futures,” a high-energy, family-friendly fundraising event designed to engage families and community members in a fun evening to support scholarships for local students on the field at Long Island Ducks Stadium.
The event raised more than $50,000 for scholarships for students in FCA programs and included games, prizes, music, and plenty of fun for all ages — all in a festive stadium setting. The event also featured an appearance from QuackerJack, the LI Ducks baseball team mascot.
“We’ve worked with kids from all walks of life. We’re talking about kids who have been bounced from foster home to foster home, kids who are thrown out of their houses because of their sexual orientation, kids whose parents have been incarcerated or struggle with mental health issues,” said Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds, President and CEO of Family & Children’s Association. “These are really bright kids, and they deserve the same shot as everybody else.”
Reynolds said some of the funds go towards tuition, books, and other student fees that are part of the expense of going to college. The program also enables kids to pursue education at trade schools and military service.
Over the last 30 years, the program has awarded more than 1,500 scholarships worth more than $2 million to students engaged with FCA’s programs and services, enabling at-risk teens to pursue their education and improve their lives.
