West Islip School District’s elementary students participating in the Summer Investigations program at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School kicked off the first week of school with “Passport to the World” theme. Students explored continents, countries and cultures around the world. Students used Chromebooks in the library to research countries using Pebble Go and compared flags, foods and holidays. In the STEM lab, students learned about maps and using map skills to locate places. Students used salt dough to create their own topographical maps of the country. They also used LEGO and worked together in small groups to build a bridge over a river.
