Carnival is celebrated in over fifty countries across the world, each with its own cultural traditions, rituals, symbolic imagery, and art forms. Carnival (Carnaval in Spanish, Portugese, and French-speaking countries; Carnevale in Italy; Fasnacht in Switzerland); Karnawal in Poland; and Karneval in Croatia and Germany), is the festivity that takes place in many countries around the world during the last days and hours before the Lenten season. Carnival originated as a non-religious festival in ancient Egypt to mark the end of winter and welcome spring. For more information visit https://www.babylonarts.org/art-of-carnaval.
