West Babylon School District and its team – the West Babylon Bald Eagles – held their annual St. Baldrick’s fundraiser on March 10 at the West Babylon Junior High School. The event has raised more than $30,000 so far. Donations close on Dec. 31 so the group will continue to raise money in various ways until that time.
Fifty-two shavees came together with six barber volunteers to shave their heads in solidarity and support of childhood cancer. West Babylon School District faculty, administration, staff and students all participated in the fundraising efforts.
The West Babylon Senior High School faculty and students also joined the efforts. Members of SADD raised more than $300 by selling shamrocks, rubber ducks and collecting donations. Team Tooker Avenue raised more than $3,500. Forest Avenue Elementary School raised $172 in donations, and South Bay Elementary School raised $50 selling shamrocks and collecting donations.
Mrs. Groel and Mrs. Henthorne’s Life Skills class raised $200 selling handmade ornaments. Thanks to donations from local businesses and West Babylon Junior High School faculty and staff, the raffles garnered more than $3,000 in sales. Donations of food by local businesses and staff raised more than $1,00 for the cause.
