Winning Stars at Winthrop Avenue School in the Bellmore Public School District learned important safety tips from volunteers of the Bellmore Fire Department.
Classes gathered in the auditorium to hear from specialists from the department on the importance of fire safety. They reminded students how to avoid burns and fires, and what to do in case of an emergency. Firefighters also showed off their protective gear and tools they use on the job. Outside the school, students took a tour of the firetruck and saw how Bellmore firefighters arrive to emergencies so quickly.
The special visit was part of Winthrop Avenue’s Health and Safety Week, during which students learned about internet safety, stress management, how to focus on their feelings and more.
