For the first time since the COVID pandemic began, Islip High School student-musicians took to the stage to perform a pair of magnificent winter concerts in December.
The first show featured the school’s electric ensemble, directed by Zachary Butterfield, and the jazz ensemble, directed by Steve Campanella. The second evening showcased the string orchestra and chamber orchestra, both directed by Butterfield; the chorus, directed by Rich Harris; and the combined concert band and wind ensemble, directed by Campanella.
“It’s been three years since we’ve had audiences in our auditoriums for a winter concert,” Director of Fine and Performing Arts Michael Hershkowitz said. “The excitement was palpable and the performances were extraordinary. I am so proud of the hard work our students and teachers have devoted to making these concerts a success.”
