More than 50 students, staff and parents came out to celebrate the school community by beautifying the hallways of Port Jefferson Middle School and Earl L. Vandermeulen High School on Oct. 7. The community event, spearheaded by Middle School Principal Mr. Brian Walker, High School Principal Mr. John Ruggero, High School/Middle School Dean Mr. Jesse Rosen and Athletic Director Mr. Adam Sherrard, was unifying and promoted school pride and spirit.

“The event turned out to be even bigger and better than we had imagined,” Mr. Sherrard said. “There was so much support from the students, staff and the community. It was a great team effort.”

Director of Facilities Mr. Fred Koebel and lead custodian Mr. Sal Figliolia were instrumental in getting the hallways ready for the occasion, during which art teacher Mrs. Nancy Randazzo and her students traced stencils throughout them.

Students and district leaders will plan additional school beautification events throughout the academic year to help continue to promote school culture and pride.
