Rocky Point High School senior Vivian Dorr has been selected to participate in the 2022 New York State School Music Association All-State Winter Conference. Vivian is a trombonist and she will perform with the symphonic band during the three-day festival in early December in Rochester. Thousands of students auditioned for this honor last spring at the solo and ensemble festivals throughout the state.
“I am very proud of Vivian and what she has accomplished,” high school music teacher Amy Schecher said. “She has worked diligently for several years to achieve this great honor. She is an intelligent, kind, mature, responsible and dedicated student and I am sure she will represent Rocky Point with pride and dignity at the All-State Festival.”
Craig Knapp, who co-chairs the district’s music department, also congratulated Vivian on this accomplishment. He noted that being selected to the NYSSMA ensemble is an achievement bestowed upon only a small percentage of music students throughout the state. Vivian is now a part of an elite group of student musicians who will represent the Rocky Point Music Department with the utmost level of pride and dedication. He also lauded his colleague, Schecher, for her guidance and support in positively impacting her students to achieve at the highest levels.
