A group of furry, four-legged friends paid a visit to Waverly Avenue Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District as part of a workshop that taught first grade students basic dog care and safety.
For more than 10 years, the Suffolk Obedience Training Club has visited Waverly to educate students on the responsibilities of owning a dog and the proper way to safely approach a dog for the first time. Throughout their recent workshop with first grade students, the dogs’ handlers demonstrated a series of commands that showcased the animals’ remarkable intelligence.
Concluding the workshop, students used their newly acquired skills to meet each of the dogs that participated in the lesson.
