Wantagh Student To Display Artwork At U.S. Capitol

Athena Yao, an Advanced Placement art student at Wantagh High School, was the third-place winner in the annual 2019 Congressional Art Competition. Her acrylic work, “The Places I’ve Been,” will hang in the Honorable Kathleen Rice’s office in Washington, D.C. for the next year.

Sponsored by the Congressional Art Institute, the Congressional Art Competition recognizes and encourages the nation’s artistic students within each congressional district to submit their work to their representative’s office, where they are adjudicated by a panel of district artists. Winners are recognized in their district and at the annual awards ceremony in the nation’s capital.

The district congratulates Athena on this outstanding artistic accomplishment.
