Understanding The Dangers of Distracted Driving

In honor of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Ward Melville High School health classes recently participated in a two-day Town of Brookhaven Safety Town initiative.

This program helped to support the district’s health curriculum in recognizing the dangers of distracted driving, including texting, using a phone or being under the influences any chemical substance. On the first day, students were asked how certain situations and scenarios can be avoided. On the second day, they participated in a variety of exercises that are designed to replicate the impairment created by drinking, chemical substance use or texting.
