Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilpersons Jackie Gordon, Anthony Manetta and Terry McSweeney recently celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at the Tanner Park Senior Center. The event, hosted by the Town of Babylon Department of Human Services and Commissioner Madeline Quintyne-McConney, featured a number of cultural performances by local groups and honorees who were recognized for their contributions to their communities. New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre was also in attendance.
This year’s Keynote Speaker was Wendy Rodriguez, the CEO of Ultimate Sweat Zone and President of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce. Honorees included Osman Canales, the Founder of Long Island Immigrant Student Advocates, Suffolk County Police Department Officer Patricia Torres, Town of Babylon employee Marco Parodi, actor and producer Amanda Ramirez, and Rosa Melendez and John Rivera, a pair of students in the Town of Babylon. Alicia Figueras-Lambert, President and CEO of Excellence in Success and Co-owner of Outstanding Women’s Network served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.
The event also featured performances by DJ Press Play, the USZ Elite Team, Julian Vasquez and the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Madrigal Choir. Cultural displays, children’s displays, vendors and raffles were some of the other activities for attendees to enjoy.
