Many of the students throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District recognized Flag Day on June 14. Donning red, white and blue, the students of Daniel Street Elementary School honored their flag with a special ceremony in which they sang patriotic songs including “America the Beautiful,” “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Grand Old Flag.”
Members of the Boy Scouts assisted in raising the American flag and members of the Girl Scouts and the fourth grade class shared their original Flag Day poetry. Principal Linda Domanico described the history of the flag to students and gave a description of its meaning and symbolism. There were musical performances from the school’s band under the guidance of teachers Phil Riccardi and Kelly Hayes.
The ceremony concluded with students Alana Ferguson, Jamie Laier, Sydney Scuola and Alexandra Wysocki performing a special and patriotic song for the audience of proud students and staff.
