The Institute for Joint Replacement at Southside Hospital has opened its newly renovated post-surgical unit where patients will be able to recover in their own private room after hip and knee replacement surgery.
The unit on the second floor of the hospital consists entirely of private rooms for patients with joint replacements to recover in a tranquil environment. Each room features state-of-the-art medical equipment and patient monitoring capabilities, as well as comfort amenities including pull-out sofas for patient visitors. A family waiting room is fully equipped with a television, microwave, refrigerator and charging stations for mobile devices.
“With the unveiling of the new Institute’s private wing, we have raised the standard of care in this region in delivering the best personalized patient experience for those who require joint replacement surgery,” said Keith Reinhardt, MD, the hospital’s chief of joint replacement and reconstruction who oversees the new unit. “Our goal is to have patients recover as quickly and safely as possible in an environment that allows patients to regain their strength, mobility and independence. At Southside’s Institute for Joint Replacement, we can continue to deliver best-in-region outcomes for our patients.”
Southside Hospital was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2019-20 Best Hospitals rankings for high performance in orthopedics. In addition, Southside’s Institute for Joint Replacement has received the Joint Commission Healthcare Quality Certification for Excellence in knee and hip replacement surgery for the past three years in a row. In 2018, the Institute performed nearly 1,000 joint replacements. Each year, Southside’s Institute for Joint Replacement is among the top hospitals in the Northwell Health system in joint replacement patient outcomes.
“The Institute for Joint Replacement is a special part of our orthopedic department,” said Michael Nett, MD, the chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery. “With the help of our dedicated nurses, physician assistants, and physical therapists, the Institute has achieved the highest patient satisfaction scores ever in the history of Southside Hospital. Our department boasts surgeons from the best training programs in the country and continues to elevate the care we are delivering to our patients.
