Orient Beach State Park Reopens February 1st

October nor’easter cut off access to the park!

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) announced that Orient Beach in Suffolk County will reopen today, February 1st.

Orient Beach has been closed since a nor’easter on October 27th cut off the only access to the park. High tide undermined and collapsed a section of the entrance roadway to the park, which is located on a peninsula at the eastern tip of the north fork of Long Island.

A $300,00 project to rebuild the roadway has reopened access to the park. The project will be complete later in the spring when the final coats of asphalt can be applied in warm weather.
