Northwell Health Walk Raises a Record $1 Million to Advance Health Care in Our Communities

More than 6,000 people, comprising patients, families, community members and employees, walked to help raise a record $1 million across three Northwell Health Walk locations — Jones Beach, East End Long Island and Staten Island — on Sunday, May 19. Supporters laced up to support women and children’s health, and cardiac and cancer care at Northwell Health hospitals in their respective communities.

“The Northwell Health Walk is an inspiring day where you see community members come together and fundraise to help us outpace the impossible – all with the common goal to advance care for the patients we serve,” said Brian Lally, senior vice president and chief development officer for Northwell Health.

At Jones Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Met greeted walkers, children played games and danced to music, and Zumba instructors warmed up the crowd – all part of a festive day with a serious goal: to support local Northwell hospitals in each walk location. Funds raised for the Jones Beach location support the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and the purchase of the latest generation echocardiogram machine at Cohen Children’s Medical Center along with a cancer research grant.

Participating at the Jones Beach Walk was 4-year-old Clementine with her parents Mark and Kathleen. Kathleen was cared for by the Katz Institute during her pregnancy and learned through fetal testing that Clementine would be born with Down syndrome and a serious heart defect. Clementine was born at Katz Women’s Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and at two months old, underwent open heart surgery at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

Kathleen and Mark shared their story with thousands of walkers at Jones Beach, and expressed gratitude for the care received. “You’re giving these babies and these children, bright futures to look forward to, and you’re giving the parents so much peace of mind. It’s a priceless gift,” said Kathleen.

Funds raised for the Staten Island walk support the Gruppuso Family Women and Newborn Center at Staten Island University Hospital and the East End walk supports cardiac services and women’s wellness initiatives at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Since its inception, the Northwell Health Walk has raised nearly $5 million. Donations will be collected through June 7. Learn more at
