Huntington Station Veteran Receives New Roof and Solar System Installed by Marcor Construction Roofing & More and SUNation

Owens Corning Platinum Contractors are working with Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County to provide new roofs to veterans in need and their families as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.

U.S. Marine Corps. veteran John Concas and his wife Linda will receive a new roof on Monday, June 17, 2019, from Marcor Construction, an Owens Corning Roofing Platinum Contractor. This nationwide effort is a way to show gratitude and honor the veterans who served our country and the families who support them. Since the inception of the Owens Corning National Roof Deployment Project in 2016, more than 130 military members have received new roofs.

The Roof Deployment Project for the Concas’ extends beyond just a new roof on their home. In addition to efforts by Marcor Construction Roofing & More and Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County, the Concas’ will also receive a new solar power system. Local solar experts, SUNation who will be installing a solar system on Long Island Cares’ headquarters, teamed up with the organization to donate and install the solar power system upon completion of the roof rebuild. The new solar system will provide the Concas family with free electric for life.

Mr. Concas was raised in an orphanage and joined the Marines at the age of 17. While enlisted, Concas served in California, Korea and a year in Okinawa, Japan. Concas was instrumental in maintaining, installing and operating the communications assets for the First Battalion, Seventh Marines and received a Meritorious Mast for his outstanding service. He is currently enrolled in Long Island Cares’ VetsWork Workforce Development Program.

“On behalf of everyone at Marcor, we are beyond excited to be a part of this project and give back to the Concas Family,” Gina Farese, Roofing Expert, at Marcor Construction Roofing & More. “Their story brought tears to our eyes and this is the reason why programs like this exist; simply to give back to amazing and deserving veterans and their families.”

Owens Corning Roofing and its network of independent Platinum Contractors, along with support from the Owens Corning Foundation, are donating roofing materials and labor to replace roofing shingles on the homes of military veterans and their families throughout the country. Through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County, the Concas’ were selected and approved as the recipient for the roof replacement.

“We are grateful for this partnership with the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project,” said Les Scheinfeld, Director of Development at Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County. “It is inspiring to see just how powerful a moment like this can be when our own local companies step up to assist veterans within our community.”
