“Helping Both Ends Of The Leash”

Paws of War is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans who suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each Veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love that only a companion animal can bring! Since 2014, Paws of War has supported over 100 Veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters.

If you work or volunteer at a shelter and have a special dog that you believe would be a good match for a Veteran in need, you can submit a short video and biography of the dog to Paws of War through their website! They will then consider your rescued dog for their program once they have received all the information you can provide. All dogs that will be considered must be rescued/shelter dogs, social, healthy, eager to please, good with other dogs and good with people.

Additionally, if you would like to foster a dog, Paws of War is always seeking people with professional veterinary experience that can provide foster care to their animals, who may need support in a home environment to adjust to becoming a lifelong service dog. If you are able and willing to assist, they would love to hear from you! Please let them know you’re interested by filling out their questionnaire on their website.

This organization relies heavily on devoted volunteers to continue providing their services. With such a small staff, Paws of War depends on the generosity of volunteers to support their fundraising efforts, to provide support to veterans and to help out with their dogs. Please call their office at (631) 406-6595 if you would like to become involved in any way.

You can also donate to Paws of War to help them carry out their mission. Individuals can donate on their website or by mail. There is truly no donation amount that is too small. They would not be able to carry out their mission of helping both ends of the leash without the generosity of their supporters. All donations are tax-deductible.

Lastly, if you are a Veteran and believe you can benefit from any of their services, please contact Paws of War…they are here to serve you! Thank you for serving our great nation.
