October’s Charity of the Month is:

The Maurer Foundation                   Maurer Foundation

The Maurer Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over 20 years. Their mission is to save lives through breast health education that focuses on breast cancer prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, early detection and risk reduction.

Since their founding in 1995, they have reached almost 350,000 high school and college students, parents, coworkers and neighbors with life- saving information on breast health, expanded their reach internationally, training their first breast health educator from outside the United States, annually educated over 200,000 people across the world on their website and trained breast health educators in local nursing programs, exponentially increasing their impact on Long Island.

This October, The Maurer Foundation has scheduled 132 breast health programs, reaching 3,300 people with life-saving information on breast self-exams, breast cancer risk factors, risk reduction, myths, facts, mammogram guidelines and more!

If you would like to learn more about breast health and breast cancer, please

visit their website and click on ‘Breast Health’ for an abundance of information.

Want to get involved? You can! There are many ways to do so such as requesting a breast health program, donating, selling pink and white cookies, hosting a fundraiser, attending an event, becoming an event sponsor, volunteering or getting certified as an educator!

Additionally, if you are interested in interning with The Maurer Foundation, that opportunity is available! They are seeking a Program Development Intern as well as a Development and Social Media Intern. The purpose of the Program Department internship is to assist in the Program Department’s primary focus of delivering breast health programs to schools, colleges, community groups as well as businesses on Long Island. The purpose of the Development and Social Media internship is to assist the Development Department in creating a strategy to increase community awareness of the foundation’s mission through an enhanced social media presence. Please contact their Development Manager, Debbie Goldman, at (631) 524-5151 or by email at DGoldman@MaurerFoundation.org if you are interested in any of the above opportunities!
