Helping You Help Others

October’s Charity of the Month is:

The Maurer Foundation

Maurer Foundation

The Maurer Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over 20 years. Their mission is to save lives through breast health education that focuses on breast cancer prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, early detection and risk reduction.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, below are a few ways you can get involved with this organization!

Increase your awareness about breast cancer this month by visiting www.MaurerFoundation.org and viewing their list of Statistics. Don’t become a statistic: Reduce your chances of being diagnosed by educating yourself on the risk factors of breast cancer and taking action on the factors that you have control of, like smoking and obesity. Later stage detection and advanced tumor size does decrease your odds of surviving breast cancer. You can improve your odds of survival by practicing early detection. Do a monthly breast self-exam, a yearly clinical breast exam and after 40, a yearly mammogram.

Support a breast cancer organization this month by attending Cocktails for a Cause on October 23rd at Havana Central Restaurant in Garden City from 6-8PM. Attendees will enjoy an evening of appetizers, drink specials, raffles and more as this organization raises funds and awareness for their mission! Register today at www.MaurerFoundation.org/Cocktails.

Host a fundraiser for breast health education this month! The Maurer Foundation would like to be your charity of choice! Let them know if you’re interested and they can support your efforts with official materials, speakers, knowledge and joint marketing efforts!

Additionally, if you are interested in volunteering or interning with The Maurer Foundation, the opportunity is available! Please contact their Development Manager, Debbie Goldman, at (631) 524-5151 or by email at DGoldman@MaurerFoundation.org if you are interested in any of those opportunities!

This year’s event will be held on November 19th at the Huntington Hilton.
