October’s Charity of the Month is:
The Maurer Foundation
The Maurer Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over 20 years. Their mission is to save lives through breast health education that focuses on breast cancer prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, early detection and risk reduction.
Since their founding in 1995, they have reached almost 350,000 high school and college students, parents, coworkers and neighbors with life-saving information on breast health; expanded their reach internationally, training their first breast health educator from outside the United States; annually educated over 200,000 people across the world on their website; and trained breast health educators in local nursing programs, exponentially increasing their impact on Long Island.
The Maurer Foundation is holding their Cocktails for a Cause event, which will take place on October 23rd at Havana Central Restaurant from 6-8PM. Attendees will enjoy an evening of appetizers, drink specials, raffles and more, as this organization raises funds and awareness for their mission! Register today at www.MaurerFoundation.org/Cocktails.
Also, if you are interested in volunteering or interning with The Maurer Foundation, the opportunity is available! They are currently seeking volunteers to lend a helping hand in their corporate office in Melville. If you have good computer skills, can help filing and answering phones and want to volunteer at a great organization that allows you to determine your hours, consider this opportunity!
Additionally, they are seeking a Program Department Intern as well as a Development and Social Media Intern. The purpose of the Program Department internship is to assist in the Program Department’s primary focus of delivering breast health programs to schools, colleges, community groups as well as businesses on Long Island. The purpose of the Development and Social Media internship is to assist the Development Department in creating a strategy to increase community awareness of the Foundation’s mission through an enhanced social media presence.
Please contact their Development Manager, Debbie Goldman, at (631) 524-5151 or by email at DGoldman@MaurerFoundation.org if you are interested in any of these opportunities!
