New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Leno Thomas has joined our innovative and dedicated network of physicians. For patients and loved ones, the fight against cancer or a complicated or sometimes even a benign, but cumbersome hematological disorder is a life-altering challenge. Since each patient is different, Dr. Thomas believes in taking “an individualized approach, not just to the disease at hand, but to the person before me- the mother, father, brother, sister or friend.” Dr. Thomas believes that partnering with the sick at their most vulnerable time is a “privileged duty” and that she extends this partnership to all of her colleagues as they work together on mutual patients.
Dr. Thomas completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, McKeesport Hospital, USA and her sub-specialty training in Hematology-Oncology at the University of Maryland, USA. Among her scholarly activities, Dr. Thomas had multiple medical publications during her career featured in the American Journal of Hematology, The International Journal of Cancer Therapy and Oncology, The Journal of Thoracic Oncology, and The Journal of Clinical Oncology. Among her professional honors, she was awarded ‘Intern of the Year’ during her residency training, as well as ‘Resident Researcher of the Year.’
In addition to her experience at Hudson Valley Medical Center, Dr. Thomas Chaired the Tumor Board and Cancer committee, and structured a working committee at St. Mary’s Hospital in Illinois. She also served as Medical Director of Oncology for three years at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Maine. Dr. Thomas also worked in other doctors’ absences, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, and at North Shore Infusion in Illinois.
Dr. Thomas strives to be the kind of physician described by the famous Dr. William Osler, “A good physician takes care of the disease. A great physician takes care of the patient who has the disease.” Dr. Thomas is eager to help achieve the best results possible for each of our patients. She has the experience of actively participating with healthcare teams, has chaired Tumor Board and Cancer committee in prior institutions and has an excellent track record of communicating and collaborating with referring and consulting physicians. Professionalism, communication, and quality healthcare are Dr. Thomas’ strengths.
Dr. Thomas has a special interest in Lung cancer, Gastro-intestinal cancers, Breast cancer, Lymphomas, and various benign blood disorders. She enjoys the gamut of simple and complex cases and has the experience of working with patients from diverse backgrounds.
