MTC culinary students sell baked goods to benefit their program
When the Culinary class at Milliken Technical Center holds a bake sale, they prepare to feed a crowd. While most bake sales feature single-serving treats, the Milliken Technical Center (MTC) featured two-pound quick breads, nine-inch pies, and small cakes, perfect for any Thanksgiving table. Students prepared, packaged, and sold the treats during the short Thanksgiving week. The students had to quickly become experts in the construction of the holiday-themed baked goods, and learned to produce the desserts on a large scale. The bake sale taught the students time management and customer service soft skills. Milliken Technical Center is part of the Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology, the Career and Technical Program of Eastern Suffolk BOCES. The Academy has campuses in Bellport, Oakdale, and Riverhead.
