Heather Berberich and Jessica Lin, students at Sanford H. Calhoun High School in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, are among 45 Long Island high school seniors named semifinalists in the 2019 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.
Additionally, they are among the top 2 percent of students chosen nationwide.
“They are looking for well-rounded individuals and I think our involvement in athletics, clubs and extra curriculars fits into that criteria,” said Berberich.
Lin mentioned her involvement in community-based organizations as incentive to apply for the scholarship.
This is an achievement-based scholarship in which more than 95,000 students applied to be among 150 recipients of $20,000 scholarships. Berberich and Lin are awaiting notification for the next round.
