Caleb Smith State Park Preserve Schedule of Events

Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown will offer the following nature programs during winter 2019. Fees for programs are $4.00 per adult, $4.00 per child. Reservations will be accepted starting two weeks prior to each program and may be made by calling the park office at (631) 265 – 1054. Free parking until April 2019. All programs conducted on the North Side of the Park unless otherwise noted. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts. *indicates all-access programs.

Tiny Tots: “Let’s Discover Nature” Hour – Ages 3 – 5

Thursdays 10:00 – 11:00 am

The “Let’s Discover Nature” Hour is a special time for both parent and child to discover the wonders of their natural world together. Each program’s theme will use nature explorations and hands-on activities as a springboard for learning.

Slippery Seals: Children’s Program *

South Side Winter Walk: Adult Program

Sunday January 27 9:30 – 11:30 am

Walk along the Nissequogue River to view this pristine area. Bring your camera and dress appropriately.

Deer Detectives: Children’s Program

Saturday February 9 10:00 – 11:00 am

Indoors, we will discover deer habits and habitats. Outdoors we will put our knowledge to the test! Dress appropriately.

The Trail Less Travelled: Adult Program
Sunday February 10 9:30 – 11:30 am
Enjoy the fresh winter air with a moderately paced walk on the Red Trail. Dress appropriately. Reservations are required (631) 265 – 1054

Experimenting With Magnetic Attractions: Family Program *
Friday February 22 10:00 – 11:30 am
There will be many activities and experiments set up for hands-on discovery play! Reservations are required (631) 265 – 1054

Wind Catchers: Family Program

Saturday March 23 10:00 – 11:30 am

Wind plays an important part on this planet. Create your own unique shell windcatcher to take home.

South Side Birding: Adult Program

We will take it slow, enjoying the wetland scenery while searching for the usual residents and hopefully some returning migrators.

Trout Unlimited Fishing Clinic Saturday, March 9th

9:00 am – 12:00 noon (Ages 16 & Up)

Trout Unlimited is sponsoring this wonderful clinic that will introduce you to the fundamentals of fly fishing. No equipment necessary. Indoor lecture to be followed by demonstrations and practice on the lawns.

Please dress for the weather.
