America’s Boating Club is offering the United States Power Squadron America’s Boating Course at the West Islip Public Library, 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795, beginning on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The course will also take place on Saturday, October 20 and 27, 2018, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
Completing the course by attending all three course dates and passing the exam on the third class date qualifies for New York State boater’s and PWC (jet ski) license and further qualifies as a boating license in all states that have license requirements such as Connecticut, New Jersey and Florida. At the present time, New York State requires all persons 20 years old and younger operating a motorized vessel in State waters to take a boating safety class with classroom instruction on boating and PWC safety (applicable laws, PFC requirements, VHF use, fueling, weather, docking, anchoring, rules of the road, basic boating knowledge etc.) followed by a written exam. New York State also requires all persons of any age operating a personal water craft (jet ski) to take a safety course.
America’s Boating Course will include knowledgeable boating topics such as: introduction to boating, boating law, boat safety equipment, safe boating navigation, boating challenges, trailering, storing, and Protecting your boat, and hunting & fishing, water skiing, and river boating.
Most boat insurers will offer a continuing ten percent discount to boaters successfully completing the course. America’s Boating Club requires all children under 18 to be accompanied by an adult at all times during the class, even if the adult does not take the course. The course is available to the public of those that are at least 12 years of age who can read on a 7th grade level.
This course will be taught by United States Power Squadron certified instructors.
