As a culminating activity in their summer program, students enrolled in the C.A.M.P. (Character, Academics, Mindset, Preparedness.) program at Accompsett Middle School in the Smithtown Central School District had a snowball fight in August. Working in small groups as part of a social-emotional learning activity, the students wrote down different mindful messages, such as “be respectful,” “be curious,” and “be responsible.” After discussing the statements and why they chose them, the students crumpled the papers into a ball and had a snowball fight in the library. When the fight stopped, students picked up the paper in front of them and read the different messages.
