2018 South Shore Surf Fishing Classic

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the 2018 South Shore Classic (Bluefish & Striped Bass) Surf Fishing Tournament will be held from 12PM Friday, October 12 through 12PM Sunday, October 14, 2018.

The tournament is sponsored by the Long Island State Park Region, the Natural Heritage Trust, The Fisherman Magazine and Captree Bait, Tackle and Fuel. This year’s corporate contributors include St. Croix and Maxima.

All fish must be hooked and landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier within the legal boundaries of the Jones and Moriches inlets. The minimum qualifying weight sizes are: Bluefish-5lb. and Striped Bass-36in. Captree Bait, Tackle and Fuel, at Captree State Park in Babylon, will remain open all day and night for the duration of the contest to weigh the entries. All fish must be weighed and recorded by 12PM on Sunday, October 14.

Those who wish to participate must have an entry permit. Applications can be requested by calling the Long Island State Park Recreation Department at (631) 321-3510. Registration will be accepted by mail until 5PM on Friday, October 5 and in person until 9AM on Saturday, October 13 at the weigh-in location. The tournament entry fee is $15.00 per participant and checks are payable to NHT-LI.

On Sunday, October 14 at 12:30PM, a ceremony will be held to award the cash prize of $750.00 to the first-place winners in the largest Striped Bass and Bluefish categories, as well as equipment prizes to the first-place winner in the largest released Striped Bass category and to the second and third place winners in all categories. In the case of a tie, the earliest recorded fish takes precedence. One prize can be awarded per person, per species.
